Rebel Wars, an Amstrad CPC game by Mananuk

-

Mananuk (sur Twitter) just released a new Amstrad CPC game : Rebel Wars. it's a shooter available as tape, disk and cartridge format. The game is also available for ZX Spectrum.

For years, the soldier of the star alliance Orion Kane has been trained in boarding and rescue missions. An expert not only in weapons but also in hacking and repairing electronic equipment, he has been requested by the high command for a new mission. From Fort Bragg, he departs for his next destination with the light Mark VII ship, heading towards one of the enemy star corvettes of the Scipio model, used for transporting troops, supplies, and prisoners.

Missions are assigned randomly, there are a total of 360 different mission combinations. There are 4 different models of Corvette Scipio so you will have to learn to navigate each one of them. There are 3 entrances/exits in each Corvette that you can use both to enter and exit once your mission has been completed. In the decompression chamber, shooting is disabled for safety reasons. The corvettes have restricted access areas, there are access cards distributed throughout the ship that will allow you to enter.-In some missions you will have a set time to complete them, don't fall asleep. We have ensured that everything necessary to complete the mission is somewhere on the ship. In the backpack, you can collect what you find throughout the corvette in each mission. After each completed mission, you will be assigned another mission on a different corvette of that or another model.

Working regularly during seven years, Sonic GX (downloadble on Pouet) for the Amstrad console GX-4000 is at least available for the pleasure of the small and older ones (well especially for the older actually...). You can also download Sonic GX locally. The archive holds the instruction manual, the slide presented at the BCP 5 and of course the cartridge as a .CPR file.

Sonic GX has been of course coded by norecess464 (also level design), but it's also the work of :

  • CeD : graphics conversion
  • Targhan : audio conversion and player
  • TotO : design and support
  • Slype : instruction manual

Have fun with Sonic GX, you will find below the video taken during the Benediction Coding Party 5 where norecess464 presents coding techniques used for his game Sonic GX.

Abatape by Abalore, tape emulation featuring multi loading on Amstrad CPC and more

-

Abalore has a project he is working since September 2024 : the Abatape.

It is using an Arduino Nano ATMega328p@16 Mhz, a 700 mAH battery for about 24 hours of use, a SD reader and an OLED screen. It is especially able to detect the two motors making a real taping moving the magnetic band so it can support multi loading. Someone did suggest to add writing support to create new tape files. The Abatape supports of course the Amstrad CPC (.CDT) but several other computers as it is based on a Maxduino firmware :

  • Spectrum : TAP, TZX
  • MSX : CAS, TSX
  • ZX80 : O
  • ZX81 : P
  • Acorn Atom, Electron : UEF (without compression), TSX
  • Dragon 32/64, Tandy CoCo : CAS, TSX
  • SVI Spectravideo : TSX
  • Oric 1/Atmos : no .TAP support unless converted to TSX

-

UPX v5.0.2 by The UPX Team is an executable compressor for several operating systems including ms-dos. It is very useful notably on PC XT where disk space was limited, whatever 5,25 or 3,5 disks or on hard disks. At the time of my Amstrad PC 1512, I was using Lzexe by Fabrice Bellard (who also owned an Amstrad PC 1512 DD), Diet by Teddy Matsumoto, PKLite by Phil Katz (PKWare) then later UPX.
